1. เริ่มจากตรวจสอบชิ้นงานด้วยการใช้ Thread Plug Gauge/Thread Ring Gauge ไขผ่านชิ้นงาน ซึ่งด้านที่เป็น GO จะต้องไขผ่านตลอดความยาวของชิ้นงานที่ต้องการตรวจสอบไปได้อย่างราบรื่น
2. Thread Plug Gauge/ Thread Ring Gauge ด้าน NOT GO หรือ NO GO การตรวจสอบอ้างอิงตามมาตรฐาน JIS ทำได้โดยการไขจะต้องไม่สามารถผ่านรูของชิ้นงานไปได้ และหากอ้างอิงตามมาตรฐาน IOS ให้ตรวจสอบโดยใช้ Thread Plug Gauge ด้านที่เป็น NOT GO หรือ NO GO หมุนเกลียวดูมากกว่าสองรอบขึ้นไป จะต้องไม่สามารถไขผ่านไปได้

เกจวัดเกลียวคือเครื่องมือสำหรับใช้ตรวจสอบระยะพิทช์ของสกรูหรือเกลียวตัวผู้ตามสเปคเกจวัดเกลียวสามารถใช้งานได้เช่นเดียวกับลิมิตเกจ นั่นคือสามารถตรวจสอบและตัดสินได้ว่าเกรดของสกรูดังกล่าวเท่ากันกับระดับของเกจหรือไม่
1.เริ่มจาก ตรวจสอบโดยด้านที่เป็น GO จะต้องไขผ่านไปได้อย่างราบรื่น
